RESEARCH ON USHER SYNDROME
On June 19th, 20th, and 21st 2025, Stichting Ushersyndroom will host the 5th International Symposium on Usher Syndrome, USH2025, in Nijmegen-Lent (NL). This symposium brings together scientists, professionals, and the USH community. The first two days will focus on the sharing of scientific knowledge, while the third day, the “congrestival,” will center not only on knowledge exchange and gathering information, but also on meeting each other and shared experiences.
Scientific research is crucial for enabling and improving diagnosis, treatment, and care. While we do not conduct research ourselves, we possess extensive knowledge and have valuable connections with leading researchers and institutes both in the Netherlands and abroad. The foundation serves as a meeting point and knowledge platform for patients, their families, healthcare providers, and researchers. This makes us a key player in advancing research, one of the pathways to realizing Mission 2030. By funding research, we steer progress in the desired direction.
In our Research Agenda, we outline four key themes that Stichting Ushersyndroom will focus on in the coming years. We aim to engage in discussions with our network partners in the fields of science, philanthropy, and business. The Research Agenda helps us make well-informed (policy) decisions and highlights the themes and questions that will impact the foundation in both the short and long term.

At Stichting Ushersyndroom, we fund promising research. Financial support can be requested by researchers, regardless of which scientific institution they are affiliated with, whether in the Netherlands or internationally.

The deadline for submitting a research project to Stichting Ushersyndroom is October 1st.
Stichting Ushersyndroom receives multiple research proposals each year, but researchers do not simply receive funding from us. We first have their proposals evaluated by our Scientific Advisory Board and, in some cases, by external reviewers from the scientific community.
Thanks to donations, the Stichting Ushersyndroom has already been able to fund several groundbreaking research projects. Nationally and internationally, we support scientific research.
