GRANT APPLICATIONS
At Stichting Ushersyndroom we fund promising research. Researchers, regardless of their affiliation with scientific institutions in The Netherlands or abroad, can apply for financial support.
Stichting Ushersyndroom offers researchers various forms of funding. Below you will find an overview and more information about our procedures and conditions.
For all types of funding, all data generated shall be made publicly available. For data that needs to be protected, for example due to its confidential nature, it is necessary to indicate how this protection will be ensured.
RESEARCH AND PILOT STUDIES
If a project is submitted by the dates listed below, it will be discussed at the next Scientific Advisory Board meeting. Stichting Ushersyndroom aims to complete the review process within four months.
The fully completed application must be submitted by October 1st, 2024, 23:59 (CET).
Please include the following with your grant application:
- A fully completed application form, including a budget.
- A letter of affiliation from the academic institution hosting the applicant and/or the academic institution where the research will be conducted.
- A single letter from the host institution is required, including proof of affiliation and contact information for the host institution and contact person.
- The applicant’s curriculum vitae must also be submitted with the grant application. Narrative CVs are also welcome. The CV must also include a list of publications.
The grant application and all required documents can be sent by e-mail to: research@ushersyndroom.nl.
The review process takes about 5 months. By March 31st, 2025, you will be notified whether or not we have (partially) approved your grant application.

APPLICATIONS VIA UITZICHT
UitZicht is an administrative collaboration, established by several Dutch funds for people with visual impairments that (among other things) finance scientific research focused on mechanisms, prevention, and treatment of ophthalmic disorders.

RESEARCH AGENDA
Scientific research is crucial for enabling and improving diagnosis, treatment, and care. We do not conduct research ourselves, but we possess extensive knowledge and have valuable connections with leading researchers and institutions in the Netherlands and beyond. The foundation serves as a meeting place and knowledge platform for patients and their surroundings, healthcare providers, and researchers. This makes us an important player in promoting research, one of the ways to achieve Mission 2030. By funding research, we steer in the desired direction.
In the Research Agenda, we outline four themes that Stichting Ushersyndroom will focus on in the coming years. We want to engage in discussions about this with our network partners from the scientific community, the philanthropy sector, and the business world. The Research Agenda helps us make informed (policy) choices and address the themes and questions that will affect the foundation in the long and short term.
In the case of a resubmission or modified version of a previously submitted proposal, please clearly indicate how the new application differs from the earlier application (by means of a cover letter and, if applicable, visually highlighting the modified sections of text).
