Stichting Ushersyndroom assesses whether your research qualifies for funding through several steps. If your research is conducted with our support, interim progress reports, a presentation, and a final evaluation will also follow.
If you have submitted an application with us, the following steps will take place:
Step 1: Assessment of the research proposal
In the first step of the procedure, members of the Scientific Advisory Board (WAR) review the research proposals. They evaluate the relevance of the research to Stichting Ushersyndroom and whether it fits within the four established themes of the Research Agenda. The experts review the proposals independently, and if necessary, guest reviewers are consulted for additional feedback and advice.
Step 2: Right of reply
Stichting Ushersyndroom shares the findings of the WAR with you. You will then have the opportunity to respond, which is referred to as the right of reply. This can take place in writing or via an online meeting. Based on the WAR’s findings and the right of reply, the WAR will collectively provide an advisory report to the board. If there are multiple research proposals, the WAR will also rank them.
Step 3: Decision
After receiving the advice from Step 2, the board of Stichting Ushersyndroom will decide which of the positively evaluated research proposals will receive funding.
Step 4: Grant allocation
Grant allocation can either be partial financial support or full funding, depending on the available resources of the foundation at the time and other research proposals that may also be considered for support.
The foundation’s board has the condition that payment will only take place when the full required budget is secured. In some cases, it may be decided, in consultation with you, to raise additional funds for the research. This depends on the opportunities the foundation identifies to apply for other funds for your research.
After submitting an application, you will always receive a letter from the board, either a grant approval or a rejection letter.
Step 5: General funding conditions
Please read the general terms and conditions related to funding by Stichting Ushersyndroom. You can download the PDF at the bottom of this page.
Since Stichting Ushersyndroom periodically updates its funding conditions, current conditions may differ from those applicable to ongoing projects. The terms and conditions in place at the time of signing the funding agreement will apply to each project.
Step 6: Research evaluation
Once funding is secured and the agreement is signed, we will monitor the project’s timeline and budget throughout the research. At the end of each research year, we will request a progress report and provide a form for this purpose. Upon project completion, we (representatives of the board and the WAR) will evaluate with you whether the objectives of your research project have been met, focusing on:
– The quality of the research results;
– The process and execution;
– The budget.
The final evaluation of the study will include a closing presentation. We will visit your location for a site visit, and if this is not possible, the evaluation will take place online via Teams.
Step 7: Publication
We kindly request the presentation to be accompanied by an audio script so that we can share it with our community and other interested parties. The foundation has its own YouTube channel. If the presentation is confidential, we ask that you notify us. We inform our donors about the research through a website article, shared via newsletters and social media channels. We would like to collaborate with you in writing such an article.
If publications in scientific journals result from the research during and/or after completion, we ask that you notify us in advance.
